Who’s dropping the puck at Hockey Fights Cancer Night?

Hockey Fights Cancer Night

Each year, the hockey community comes together in support of cancer patients and their families through Hockey Fights Cancer. This Saturday, November 18 our friends at the Buffalo Sabres are partnering with the Courage of Carly Fund for their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes.

But not before we drop the puck on pediatric cancer!

We’re excited to introduce two very special, courageous and inspiring Courage of Carly members who will kick off the 2017 Hockey Fights Cancer Night with the ceremonial puck drop.

Meet Cameron

Cameron grew up with our namesake, Carly. He has been actively involved with our work since the beginning — volunteering, fundraising and supporting Carly and her family throughout their battle with cancer. Cameron even helped start our annual summer swimming event, Carly’s Crossing.

Cameron has not only supported the work of the Courage of Carly Fund, but has also experienced firsthand what we offer to patients and families. He has gone through cancer treatment twice in his life, but has come out strong and has benefitted from the supports offered by the Courage of Carly Fund – supports that he has also volunteered and fundraised for!

Cameron is currently pursuing an MD/PhD at the University at Buffalo, and he even worked at Roswell Park labs during his undergrad years!

Meet Lucy

Lucy is new to the Courage of Carly Fund. She loves the outdoors, and she really enjoys spending time with animals. Her favorite singers are Meghan Trainor and Arianna Grande, and her favorite food is PB&J!

She was recently diagnosed with a Wilms’ tumor. While this diagnosis was hard for her and her family, Lucy has taken on treatment with her signature sparkle and spunk. She often comes to treatments wearing her pink cowboy hat and pink boots — ready to kick cancer’s butt!

“They help make it seem like life is still going,” says Lucy’s mom, reflecting on the support resources they have received from Roswell Park Cancer Institute [link] and the Courage of Carly Fund. “It’s amazing that she is handling everything so well!”

The Impact of Your Support

Our mission at the Courage of Carly Fund is to give every child a fighting chance. Cameron and Lucy exemplify the courage and hope that we are able to offer every child fighting cancer thanks to community donations and support.
